The Master's Degree in Physical Activity and Health is in line with current policies to promote physical activity as an essential means of improving the physical condition, quality of life and health of the population. The course is based on the guidelines and recommendations of international and national organizations regarding the promotion of physical activity as a tool for education, training and health promotion in different segments of the population. Through the development and deepening of skills on the relationships between physical activity, health and lifestyle, the course provides the study and planning of intervention plans. All the teaching provided focuses on improving public health through physical activity; combating sedentary lifestyles and the most prevalent diseases; creating effective education and training tools; promoting integration and equal opportunities in access to physical activity and creating networks that encourage synergies between different sectors of the community.
The Master's Degree in Physical Activity and Health has been recognized for the career progression of teachers in public institutions. The Directorate-General for School Administration (Direção-Geral da Administração Escolar - DGAE), under the terms of paragraphs 1, 2, 3 and 4 of article 54 of the Teaching Career Statute, has recognized the Master's Degree in Physical Activity and Health for the career progression of Primary School Teachers (Kindergarten Teachers, Primary School Teachers, and Physical Education Teachers – recruitment group 260) and Secondary School Physical Education Teachers (recruitment group 620).
The course objectives are:
- Provide specialized training in the area of Physical Activity and Health;
- Promote skills that enable knowledge and understanding of the relationships between physical activity, health and lifestyle.
- Develop skills that enable the planning of strategic interventions linked to the promotion of health and well-being.
