SPRINT

The Sport Physical Activity and Health Research & Innovation Center (SPRINT) is a new R&D Unit in the field of Sports Sciences, registered with the FCT under reference 6185, on January 8, 2024.

SPRINT resulted from a consortium of 8 public institutions, including the Polytechnic Universities of Beja (IPB), Coimbra (IPC), Castelo Branco (IPCB), Guarda (IPG), Santarém (IPSantarém), Setúbal (IPSetúbal), Viana do Castelo (IPVC), and the University of Algarve (UAlg).

In 2025-2026, SPRINT brings together more than 100 integrated doctoral researchers, 70 collaborating members, and 30 doctoral students affiliated with two Research Groups:

  1. Human Behavior & Sports Performance SPRINT4PERFORMANCE
  2. Physical Activity & Sustainable Communities SPRINT4HEALTH

As a research group SPRINT4PERFORMANCE tackles the following goals:

  • Develop internal, external research and innovation projects within the subgroups [Training & Sports Performance; Lifespan Motor Behavior]
  • Increase the quality and quantity of publications and their international impact
  • Foster international activities
  • Engage young researchers and students in scientific activities
SPRINT4HEALTH

As a research group SPRINT4HEALTH tackles the following goals:

  • Develop internal, external research and innovation projects within the subgroups [Lifespan Physical Activity, Exercise & Lifestyles; Physical Activity, Exercise & Lifestyles in Special Conditions]
  • Increase the quality and quantity of publications and their international impact
  • Foster international activities
  • Engage young researchers and students in scientific activities
